Oh say can you seeeeeee....

The 1 million (estimated) people standing in line at the elementary school J and I vote at? Not very encouraging. Esp. given the fact that when we were waiting to vote for the primaries, we waited for well over 1.5 hours... And that was an election that few people bother with, during an ice storm...

Regardless of my crankiness at the thought of having to wait in an infinite line, I have to admit that, yes Virginia, I will be there, casting my vote - for the lesser of two evils, sure - but because I can.

I can and will because I am a citizen of this great country, given freedoms that some take for granted but are punishable by death in other countries.

I can and will because of the men and women - past, present and future - who have died to keep us free.

I will because I believe that you have no right to complain if you didn't bother to vote.

I will because it is the nature of the beast in this town. Electoral maps become drinking games, and tomorrow everyone will be reaching for their favorite hangover cure, either from celebrating or from drowning their sorrows.

And of course, I will because I am a sucker for the "I Voted!" sticker. :oP

As much as I am sick to death of the campaign ads, the smear tactics, pollsters, road signs and the buzzwords, I can't help but feel... humbled?... by knowing that no matter who wins, tonight truly is history in the making. (Now let's hope it's a good clean fight, no hanging chads, no recounts... Aw who am I kidding?)

May the best man win. (Or at least the lesser of 2 evils...)
