So as I hinted in my last blog entry, we have big news a brewin'. No, not THAT big news, despite the wishes (and fertility dances) of my friends...
We've decided to adopt a fur baby. Specifically - this one. OK, so that may be too specific, after the weekend we had.
I went into this decision with Justin knowing three things:
1. I want a black & white ("tuxedo") cat. No b&w, no deal. The more black the better - shows up less on my primarily black wardrobe. (Our tan couches and carpet however......)
2. If we are getting a cat, it had better act like a dog (friendly, active, loving...)
3. Justin agrees to assume ALL CAT DUTIES (and doodies) upon adoption of this cat. (What can I say? I'm a dog person at heart.)
All three guidelines agreed upon, we went out to meet Figaro, the assuredly sweet and loving tuxedo cat.
We drive allllllllll the way down to Stafford (kidding, it took 15 minutes) and arrive at the Petsmart adoption center to see - to our luck! - Figaro is there. We begin to do the song and dance with the lady running the event and we find out that (a) he's not up to date with his shots (despite the website saying so), so we can't take him home until at least Tuesday, when he has an appointment with the vet, and (b) Figgie seems to be developing bald spots. She wants to have the vet look him over to be sure that it's not medical (mange?) and maybe just her BLIND CAT KICKING HIS ASS. I wish I were making that up. Apparently she fosters a blind cat who, despite not being able to see, is QUITE the bitch. But I digress.
We get a chance to hold him and he seems sweet enough, but very VERY wary. I can only imagine all the enormous woofing German Shepherds in the place were doing a number on his nerves. The rescue lady said that we should come by later this week to see him in his natural habitat (at home, away from the dogs) and maybe take another 5 or 6 cats home with us? (As if.) So we have an appointment to go to her house on Wednesday to see Figaro and the crew at home.
But here's the other tiny little detail, just to make it more difficult. (We ALL know I don't do well with too many choices.) Figaro = calm, sweet, docile cat who loves a tummy rub. Sylvester, his brother = rambunctious, fun, playful cat who loves to move and play! Hmmmmmmm. Is it too late to trade this model in for the more "doglike" one?
Stay tuned...
