It has been a good long while since my last activity here. Life has been so crazy lately that I barely have time to think much less access the 'net!
However, in a nice change of pace, the insanity has been all GOOD busy-ness! :oD First of all, I've received a promotion at work! In three short months, I made enough of an impression for my boss to offer me the office manager position with the College! After much debate and negotiations, I told them I would accept on my conditions... and they agreed! I essentially wrote my own job description! I now run the office, while keeping involved with the PAC, and "providing top line assistance to the director"... my boss Christian who is wearing two hats himself, seems only too happy to have the help.
I may have bitten off more than I can chew - two new facets of my job include management (the receptionist) and budgeting, while actually overseeing a completely independent office (my prior experience has always been tied to a "mothership", if you will). I literally am moving every minute of the day and my web time has dropped dramatically. [Thank goodness for the crackberry, after all I DO have a 2 hour commute to work ;)].
But I am super excited for this opportunity and just hope I don't let everyone down. There is a certain amount of pressure and high expectations that I've inherited... everyone loves me (naturally!) and has approached me telling me how excited they are to have me in this position, and that they will "FINALLY have a real office manager" to run things right. Major *GULP*.
Other than that, school starts next week - nothing like math class to TRULY give you a case of the Mondays... was FINALLY able to go up and meet my friend's little girl, Whitney. I think I held my own pretty well, at least in the "hold and coo" department. (Thanks for the practice, Kari!) Luckily I was not asked to feed or change her, as I've had zero practice there.
The weather is changing, and the year is ZOOMING past. Pretty soon we'll hear carolers in the neighborhood. Good God, what happened to these past 8 months?
Looking forward, I've got a birthday coming up, a girls' weekend in early October, and I'll be heading to San Francisco October 11-16 for our Annual Meeting (they call it Clinical Congress... which for the first two months of my employment here I called "Congressional Congress"... to the bemusement of everyone). My first time for many things - 1st trip to San Fran and CA itself, as well as my 1st time flying alone (that far - the only exception was to RTP NC for GSK, I flew alone) I do NOT fly well so this will be QUITE interesting... Lucky (?) I know there are a couple of girls here who don't fly well either - one reportedly worse than me - so I'm going to see if we can buddy up, even if just to cry on each others' shoulders...
OK off to do my "Queen of Wisconsin Ave" bit... hopefully back when I can! :)
