Today is J's and my 11th day back on Weight Watchers, and in our first weigh in, I'd lost 2.5 lbs and he'd lost 4.5. (Show off.) I never thought I'd say this, but it feels good to be back on the program. We'd grown so lax in our eating habits that we were eating junk and putting on the weight, which would put me in a funk, meaning I'd stop caring about eating right... and the whole vicious circle continued. But now we're eating better stuff and less to boot, we feel... less "icky", if you know whadda mean.
Last night we tried the new Papa John's Whole Wheat pizza crust, the "garden fresh" (veggie lovers). It wasn't bad... just okay. I don't know if it was the vegetables on it, but it was very watery, and the crust had that "you're eating diet food and everyone knows it but it's for a good reason so therefore it's tolerable" cardboard-ish taste (and feel) to it. But I looked up the WW points this morning (5 per slice for the whole wheat v. 6 per slice of the traditional crust) and for 1 measly point, I'd rather get the real stuff.
We were one of the 500,000 people to go to the Grand Opening of the Wegman's on Sunday. First of all... holy COW that is one big ass store. Secondly, we must have been high or NEEDED an increase in our medications to go to the store within the first hour it's opened. We thought we'd beat the crowds by going at 7:30 am, but apparently EVERYONE thought this way. (Aren't you people supposed to be at church?!!?)
It was truly impressive. They have enormous departments dedicated to fancy cheeses, wines, flowers... we never made it through the crowds to the deli but we heard it was great. The first half of the store is all fancy, frou-frou organics and stuff like goat's milk and "gluten free" foods. Where's my milk in a plastic jug, my lean cuisines? We began to despair of ever shopping there until a friendly store clerk said "oh no, that stuff is on the other half of the store". So we happily found almost all of the foods we were looking for, and a whole lot more.
They've got a great selection of international foods and just plain old things we'd never seen before! We picked up some (authentic looking) Jerk Seasoning rub to make that tasty chicken dish we fell in love with in the islands, and also some thai curry and butter chicken makings. The only thing they didn't have was seasoned (black/pinto) beans, so I guess we're totally not free of Safeway, but you can bet your sweet bippy we'll only go to that terrible, horrible, f*ckfest of a store for last minute emergencies.
Prices seemed to be cheaper for most things if not comparable to Giant (their advertised competitor) and Safeway. In the end, we spent as much if not less than we usually do, so we were pretty happy.
Good riddance, Safeway. Consider us a Wegman's family from here on out!
